(Spirit Lake)– With an important deadline just days away, those working to get Spirit Lake designated a Blue Zone Community are putting out a final push to get residents to show their support for the effort.
Spirit Lake is one of 54 Iowa communities in the running for the designation. The final selection will be based on the area’s interest and ability to make visible, measurable changes to adopt a culture that encourages physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Only 12 of the remaining 54 communities will be selected for site visits. Those 12 communities will be announced one week from today, Friday, February 10th.
In the meantime, residents are being urged to pledge their non-financial support toward the initiative by going to www.bluezonesproject.com and click on “I am a citizen” and complete the short form. You can also make your pledge by texting BZP to 772937.
So far, just over 30 percent of Spirit Lake residents have given their non-financial pledge. Power 9 Advisory Board member Jeff Vierkant hopes to increase that to atleast 35 percent by this coming Tuesday.
