(Estherville)– The Estherville campus of Iowa Lakes Community College last week hosted officials from 17 colleges in 10 states to learn more about ILCC’s Wind Energy and Turbine Technology program.
The day-long conference included information on pre-planning and deployment of a new program; funding; how to develop and update curriculum which responds to industry needs; maintaining the program; and challenges faced by the college as the wind industry continues to grow.
Following the presentations, visitors were given a tour of the classrooms and laboratories.
Representatives from colleges in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, West Virginia and Iowa were on hand.
The Iowa Lakes Wind Energy and Turbine Technology program started in the fall of 2004 with 15 students. Today, there are 106 freshman and sophomore students enrolled in the program. This fall, 102 incoming freshmen are expected, which would bring the total enrollment to more than 160 for the 2009-2010 college year.
Iowa Lakes Community College will host the second annual Iowa Wind Energy Association Conference April 2nd in Estherville.
