(Okoboji)– An extensive revamp of the playground at Speier Park in Okoboji is about to get underway. In addition to some site work, all of the present play equipment, other than the swings, will be replaced with new. City Administrator Michael Meyers says the city will be selling the existing equipment…
“There has been considerable interest in purchasing or bidding on this equipment and so starting very, very soon the city of Okoboji will put all of the Speier Park equipment up for bid, and there will be more details about that on our website. But we understand that there is significant interest in it and so we just want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to place a bid on that.”
Meyers says the goal is to get as much of the site work done as possible this fall, with the new playground equipment being installed in the spring…
“So we plan on closing the Speier Park playground on September 5th which is the Tuesday after Labor Day. In which case at that point city staff will come in and start doing removal work. We’ll keep bids open for the equipment until 4:30 on September 12th, and so if you’re interested give me a call or get a bid in by September 12th at 4:30 o’clock.”
Meyers says the project is scheduled for completion with the park reopening to the public by Memorial Day, 2024.
