(Spencer)– Registration is now underway for “Bite By The Barn” which will be taking place Thursday, September 14th from 4:00 until 5:30 pm at the Clay County Fair. Sarah Dirks, Adult Program Coordinator with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach says one of the goals of the program is to clear up misconceptions about agriculture…
“It’s kind of designed to share accurate information about production agriculture and the food supply with consumers and it happens during the Clay County Fair. They get a free admission ticket to come to the fair and then we have tours of the barns with our agriculture specialist who answers any questions people have about production agriculture.”
Dirks says the program is free to participants, but there is a limit on the number…
“We have a max participation at 30 participants just because of the tours, so everybody can hear and participate in the tours.”
Dirks says this will mark roughly the fourth year for Bite By The Barn. She says it’s a spin-off from a similar program geared toward the kids…
“We do an Ag Citing program for our area third grade kids every year since like the 1990’s where kids come out to the fair to get ag education and Paul Kassel, our retired agronomist came up with the idea of having an adult program just like that. We don’t go all day long but we do share some agriculture education with adults.”
