July 16, 2024 Becky Thoreson

(Okoboji)-Registration is underway for the Prairie Lakes Conference. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

The Prairie Lakes Conference will be held August 7-9 in The Iowa Great Lakes.

Dr. Mary Skopec, Executive Director of Iowa Lakeside Laboratory says, the conference will include discussions and tours. “We are starting at Lakeside Lab in one of our buildings and we’ll have presentations about how you can stabilize your shoreline and then that afternoon we’re gonna get on a bus and go look at some of these practices and then on Thursday, we’re also in the classroom in the morning talking about some of the flooding that’s happened and things that are happening with aquatic invasive species, and then a field tour where we’re going to out and take a look at some of the things like the Okoboji View Wetlands, and then on Friday, we’re actually going to have what we call a Community Conversation, and that morning you can come out to The Lab and we’re gonna take questions from people about what their concerns are thinking about water quality this year and have a great conversation.”

She adds that registration is available online. “They can go to the Prairie Lakes Conference website which is plciowa.com and on there is a 2024 agenda and registration. We do have a reduced rate for community members. So, it’s $25 for the entire conference.”

The Prairie Lakes Conference will conclude with The Okoboji Blue Water Festival August 10.
