(Undated)– The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for a good deal of northwest Iowa for today (Friday). It’s in effect from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm and includes Clay, Dickinson, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola and Sioux counties.
Forecasters say northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph will combine with relative humidity as low as 35 percent and the extremely dry vegetation to create an extremely high fire danger. Officials say any fire that can get going in conditions like that will quickly spread and exhibit extreme behavior.
