Red Flag Warning Issued For Large Part Of NW Iowa

February 26, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– Today (Mon.) is NOT a good day to be doing any open burning.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for most of northwest Iowa including Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Emmet, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, and Sioux counties within our listening area. It’s in effect until 5:00 pm today (Mon.).

Forecasters say the combination of warm temperatures, low humidity, gusty wind and dry vegetation could cause any fire that gets going to spread very rapidly.

The Milford Fire Department was called Sunday to a small grass fire in the Horseshoe Bend area, near the Little Sioux River.
