(Okoboji)-A unique event will return to the U of O Winter Games next month. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
Parks Marina has announced that The Red Bull Ice Scramble will return during the University of Okoboji Winter Games on Saturday, January 28.
Trevor Johnson, Senior Marketing, says the event is a UTV race on the ice. “This is basically UTV on ice. Utility Vehicles, so it’s four wheels, part of The Red Bull Scramble Series they have four races. They do snow, desert, sand, and then, we are the ice part of that. They came last year and they enjoyed how we embrace our Winter Games and were very impressed and so, they’ve decided to come back. So, this is year two. It takes place on the frozen ice. It’s a unique, short course with frozen corners, bumps and jumps. Very fast-paced, high-energy and it’s fun to watch.”
He says that pros and amateurs will compete. “Red Bull is gonna have two professional racers that they sponsor come in, and then there’s more professional racers that come in, as well. There’s pros and then, there’s average people with a UTV. You can enter this race, too. There’s a few safety things. You have to have some AMA studs to enter, but you can race along the professionals and there are prizes to win, as well.”
