Recycling Assessments Going Up In Jackson County

December 22, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Jackson)- It’s been ten years since recycling costs have gone up in Jackson County and a recent recycling assessment says that prices will likely be rising slightly due to costs going up over time. In cities that recycling gets done twice a month, and in rural areas there are rural drop off containers. Jackson County Administrator Ryan Krosch explains the change…

“It was previously $47 for curbside pickup and $25 for the rural residential service. With increasing costs and less demand now in the market for recyclable materials, our contract to provide those services did go up for the next five years here so we had to adjust the assessment accordingly. For curbside pickup that amount is going up to $54 so not a large increase, and the increase for rural drop service is going up to $50 that was a little bit bigger.

He says the rising cost comes simply because of fuel and that new contract. Recycling services will continue to do their work as normal at the normal times with the new assessment but the only change will be in those prices rising.
