(Lakefield, Mn.)– Recent rains will help give area crops another boost. Jim Nesseth of Extended Ag Services in Lakefield says the moisture again came at an important time as corn and soybeans continue to move toward maturity…
“We’re in the dough stage in a lot of the corn so that’s advancing to maturity pretty rapidly, and some of the beans are at the R-5 stage, so, you know, in terms of kind of where that for maturity and staging, we look at that really closing when we’re scouting fields for aphids. I would say that in another week, 10 days, two weeks at the most, we’ll be out of danger for aphids. Once they get, those beans get closer to maturity, probably that R-6 to R-7, the risk of damage from aphids is gone.”
Nesseth says the rain will help soybeans which are blooming and setting pods. He says the corn will benefit with better ear filling and test weight come harvest time.
