(Des Moines)– Hot, dry weather last week across Iowa made crop stress more widespread. That’s according to the latest condition report from the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The condition of Iowa’s corn crop dropped to 59 percent good to excellent; the soybean condition dropped to 55 percent good to excellent.
Topsoil moisture across Iowa was rated 19 percent very short, 42 percent short, 38 percent adequate and one percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was 20 percent very short, 47 percent short, 32 percent adequate and one percent surplus.
The report says both the corn and soybean crops continued to develop ahead of last year and the five year average, in spite of the dry conditions.
