November 22, 2014

(Milford)– A local blood supplier is honoring a couple of just graduated seniors from Okoboji and Spirit Lake High Schools for their support. Zach Jones of Okoboji High School and Alex Waltz of Spirit Lake High School are among the LifeServe Blood Center’s “2012 Gallon Grads”. The program encourages high school students ages 16 and older to donate a gallon of blood before graduating high school.

A total of 127 students from 45 counties in the LiveServe Blood Center’s service area of Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota were recognized this year for the honor.

The Blood Center of IOwa joined operations with Siouxland Community Blood Bank in April, 2010 to become LifeServe Blood Center, which supplies most locals hospitals with  blood and blood products. It is one of the 15th largest blood centers in the country, providing blood and products to more more than 87 hospitals.
