REAP Regional Assembly Meeting Set For Oct. 3rd In Spencer

September 21, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– A meeting will be held next month for those interested in improving natural resources in the region. The REAP, or Resource Enhancement and Protection program, will hold its regional assembly meeting Tuesday, October 3rd from 1 to 3pm in the Oneota Lodge in Spencer.

The program, established in 1989, has funded nearly 389 million dollars for city, county, and state park projects that have included water quality improvements, habitat protection, roadside prairies, historical development, and conservation education. A number of those have been right here in the Iowa Great Lakes area.

REAP assemblies are held across the state every two years. Attendees will have the chance to identify opportunities for regional projects, and review and recommend changes in policies, programs, and funding. Following the assemblies, elected delegates from each region will attend the statewide REAP Congress in January. Regional priorities will be voted on by the REAP Congress and sent to the governor and legislature.
