Rain dampens Fire Danger

November 22, 2014

Much needed rain fell Around the Iowa Great Lakes this morning, with two tenths of an inch recorded at the KUOO studios in Spirit Lake.

The precipitation follows a weekend that saw red flag warnings and fire weather watches for much of the region.

A brush fire in South Dakota threatened about 80 building on the outskirts of Rapid City on Saturday, and the city’s Fire chief says the fire should be a “wake up call” to the increased fire hazards this spring with more warm temperatures and high winds in the forecast. The fire near Rapid City scorched about 150 acres before being contained late Saturday afternoon.
