(Sibley)– A railroad crossing in Osceola county will be getting some safety upgrades thanks to funding through a federal program.
The Iowa Transportation Commission earlier this week approved funding for signals or signals with crossing arms at 19 crossings throughout the state, including one on 260th Street in Osceola county. Signals with gate arms will be installed at that location as a joint project with the Union Pacific Railroad.
200-thousand dollars was awarded for the project through the Federal-Aid-Highway-Railroad Safety Fund, which provides 90 percent of the cost of the improvement. The remaining 10 percent is paid by the Highway jurisdiction and/or the railroad.
