(Ruthven)– A pursuit Friday evening involving deputies from Clay and Palo Alto counties landed a Fort Dodge woman in jail on multiple charges.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says it started around 7:18 p.m. when it was informed of an erratic driver headed westbound on Highway 18 west of Emmetsburg. Deputies a short time later located the suspect vehicle, a white 1994 Ford pickup, about two miles north of Ruthven. Deputies attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver, 48-year-old Kelly Beightol of Fort Dodge, refused to stop, resulting in a pursuit that proceeded into Clay county. A Clay county sheriff’s deputy was at that location and deployed stop sticks, totally deflating three of the pickup’s tires. Beightol continued to drive the pickup about another mile before coming to a stop. She was then arrested and charged with eluding and operating while intoxicated. Beightol was booked into the Palo Alto county jail.
During processing and a subsequent search, Beightol was found to be in possession of prescription drugs and a schedule 4 controlled substance. Additional charges of unlawful possession of a prescription drug and possession of a schedule 4 controlled substance were also filed against Beightol.
