Pursuit Results In Multiple Charges Against Estherville Man

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– An Estherville man faces multiple charges following a pursuit early Saturday in Estherville.

Police say officers were attempting to stop a vehicle for an equipment violation. Upon activating their lights, the driver of the suspect vehicle stopped briefly, then took off leading the officers on a high speed pursuit. The driver eventually pulled over and stopped at the corner of South 15th Street and 7th Avenue South in Estherville. The driver, identified as 40-year-old Lane Laidig of Estherville, got out of the vehicle and tried to flee on foot. He was chased by an officer who deployed a taser to subdue Laidig, who was then taken into custody.

Laidig was booked into the Emmet county jail on charges of operating while intoxicated…2nd offense; failure to obey a traffic control device; failure to provide proof of liability insurance; insufficient number of headlamps, failure to use headlamps when required, three counts of failure to obey a stop sign; eluding a law enforcement vehicle, interference with official acts and reckless driving.

Laidig was later released from jail after posting bond.
