(Spirit Lake)– A project to renovate a historic lakes area shelter house has reached a new milestone.
Joe Uhlman of Spirit Lake is heading up the project for the Mini Wakan State Park shelter house on the north shore of Big Spirit Lake. He tells KUOO news they are closing in on their million dollar fundraising goal and the project has reached the design phase. Uhlman says the public will be able to give input on final plans for the facility at a meeting scheduled for 7:00 p.m. this coming Thursday, January 20th at the Dickinson County Expo Building in Spirit Lake.
Uhlman says those plans will then be forwarded to an architect for final tweaking. He anticipates that will be done by the end of February. Uhlman says that would allow for a bidletting in late February or sometime in March. Construction would then get underway later this spring or summer.
