(Spencer)– A problem at its water treatment plant resulted in Spencer Municipal Utilities discharging some lime into Stolley Pond earlier today (Friday).
A news release issued by SMU doesn’t say exactly how much of the substance was released, saying that it was small. It also didn’t go into detail into the reason behind the discharge.
SMU officials say they worked closely with personnel with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources during the incident. They say impacts were “minimized, and no apparent damage to wildlife occurred.”
