Presence Of Carbon Monoxide At A Spencer Church Prompts A Response From Firefighters

May 02, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– The Spencer Fire Department was called to First Christian Church at 701 East 18th Street around 9:18 am today (Thursday) after getting a report of carbon monoxide detectors going off. Firefighters entered the building with gas meters and found high levels of carbon monoxide throughout the church.

The natural gas supply to the building was shut off and firefighters ventilated the structure. Crews with Black Hills Energy were investigating the source of the problem.

Fire crews say it emphasizes the importance of having functioning carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.

The Spencer Fire Department was on the scene nearly an hour-and-a-half. No one was injured.
