Prairie Ecology Bus Center Has A New Name but Same Goal

August 01, 2025

In 2024 the Prairie Ecology Bus Center lost their beloved bus in an accident. The bus may be gone but the goal of providing hands-on, nature-based education stays the same. The PEBC is now named Wild Compass Environmental Education. Communications Manager Erica Vockrodt says the change has been exciting.

“You know we have our new name, logo, updated colors, messaging, you know visual identity, our new website. You know it was just time for something new after 27 years of Prairie Ecology Bus Center and then not having the ecology bus we all decided that we needed a name that reflected our new direction.”

Executive Director of Wild Compass Environmental Education Alisha Paplow says they look forward to expanding their reach.

“Covid really kind of opened the doors for different programming for us in a sense that we weren’t able to go into the schools so we’ve done a lot of growing outside of the outreach programming that we did with the schools. And so basically that was building our on-site programs too and finding other organizations that we can work with such as home school groups and different pre-schools and libraries. But then we were also able to grow our summer camps.”
