(Graettinger)—While no one in Iowa won the $587 million Powerball jackpot, some lucky players did manage to cash in on some significant consolation prizes.
For example, the Iowa Lottery says a ticket worth $10,000 was sold at the Graettinger Country Store in Graettinger. It was one of four tickets sold in the state that matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball.
Three other tickets sold in Iowa that matched those numbers and also had the Power Play option were good for $40,000. None of those were sold in our area.
Lottery officials say more than 114,000 tickets purchased in Iowa won atleast some amount of money in last (Wed.) night’s record jackpot drawing.
Iowa Lottery players bought more than $7.7 million in Powerball tickets for Wednesday’s drawing, including nearly $4.9 million in tickets on Wednesday alone. Lottery officials say that during the busiest time from about 6:00-7:00 p.m., Powerball tickets in Iowa were selling at a pace of more than 11,000 per minute.
Two tickets were sold that matched all the numbers plus the Powerball. One was sold in Missouri, the other in Arizona.
By the way, the winning numbers were 5, 16, 22, 23, 29 and the Powerball was 6.
