Possible Improvements Being Explored For Estherville Airport

December 18, 2025

(Estherville)– The Estherville City Council earlier this week authorized the submission of the Airport Improvement Program Preapplication to the Iowa Department of Transportation. City Administrator Penny Clayton says the action was based on a recommendation from the city’s Airport Commission…

“The projects that they have identified include the construction of a grass pathway from the apron north up to the grass runway that runs kind of east and west. That would include both designing and construction, not just construction. Reflectors for the grass pathway, potentially expanding the aviation gas fuel system and then also they’ve identified terminal building improvements in the plan, although those don’t rank very high on our list because the parallel taxiway is a safety concern for the airport, that is their primary goal is to get that done. However, if you don’t have things in your plan, and funding doesn’t work out the way you want it to, then you are unable to use funds because it wasn’t in your plan.”

The council took the action at their meeting Monday evening.
