(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson County supervisors today (Tues.) voted to close a one mile stretch of 100th Street at the Iowa-Minnesota border, about a mile and-a-half east of County Road N-16. Dickinson County engineer Cole Budach says some culverts under the road there are failing…
“It’s technically a bridge because it spans more than 20 feet, but it is two twin 9 by 6 culverts that are in place. The state of Minnesota recently did an inspection on this through SRF Consulting Group and they found that there is a 16.3 inch deflection in the middle of this culvert and they’ve recommended it for closure.”
Budach says they’re working closely with Jackson county on the matter…
“We’re working with Jackson county still to figure out an exact plan for a replacement of this culvert, but right now it’s looking like it will be pretty similar to some of the other culverts that we’ve replaced on the state line.”
Budach says any replacement is likely at least a year out. He says the traffic volume in that area is very light but he says there likely will be an inconvenience to farmers with the harvest this fall.
