(Spencer) – Clay County Fairgoers will be able to see firsthand how sap from trees is turned into pure maple syrup.
Iowa State University Forestry Extension Specialists will be on hand each day of the fair deomonstrating a small-scale homemade evaporator and a modern commercial-style evaporator. They’ll also talk about the history of maple syrup.
Forestry experts will also answer any tree-related questions.
The mobile sugar house will be located at the Ag Learning Center on the west end of the Clay County Fairgrounds. The Ag Learning Center is staffed by the Iowa State Extension Clay County office and is open daily at the fair from 8am until 8pm.
The Clay County Fair runs September 10-16.
