(Spirit Lake)– While many of us are once again enjoying our favorite outdoor activities with the warmer weather, authorities say burglars are taking advantage of it as well. Spirit Lake police say they’ve been seeing an increase recently in reports of burglaries and other suspicious activities.
Police say it’s important to make sure vehicles are locked, even if parked in your driveway. Doors to garages and outbuildings should also be locked. Police say light is a criminal’s biggest enemy and that motion-activated lights are pretty effective at scaring them away. They add it’s also a good idea to install security cameras around the exterior of your home. Police say the video is surprisingly good quality and the cameras are relatively inexpensive.
They also urge anyone who sees any suspicious activity to report it as quickly as possible.
