POET Signs Agreement With Processing Company For Project Liberty

November 22, 2014

(Emmetsburg)– POET-DSM Advanced Biofuels has signed an agreement with International Technology Group Andritz to supply a treatment process for its commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant being constructed near Emmetsburg.

Officials say the technology will help draw out the available sugar in the collected biomass as part of the ethanol conversion process.

Project Liberty, as it’s known, is expected to produce 20 million gallons per year of cellulosic bio-ethanol, increasing to about 25 million gallons per year.

The facility will use corn cobs, leaves, husks and stalks.

Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2013.

This fall farmers increased the amount of biomass being delivered to the site to fine-tune storage efforts and get farmers used to the biomass collection process.

The Andritz technology utilizes a two-stage process that includes a vertical reactor, an interstage washer and a steam process.
