(Spirit Lake)– Plans for a major revamp of a Spirit Lake city park continue to progress.
The city council met in a joint session earlier this week with the city’s Park and Recreation Committee to review a master plan for the project. The plan, drawn up by the RDG planning and architectural firm, contains a new shelter house and restrooms, a splash pad, extensive sidewalks, a basketball court, parking areas and a large open area in the center of the park, along with other amenities. An open design is planned to make the lake visible from the park.
Planting of native trees and grass is also included.
Council and committee members expressed support for the plan and offered additional comments, which will be reflected in another plan revision to be presented to the public at an upcoming meeting.
The city intends to make the improvements this coming summer, in conjunction with the reconstruction of Lake Street from the highway to Gary Avenue.
