(Milford)– The Milford Commercial Club has announced the Grand Marshall’s for this year’s Pioneer Days parade will be Virgil and Marietta Wahlman.
The Wahlman’s have been active in the Milford community for many years.
Virg moved to Milford in 1935. He graduated from Milford High School in 1946. He served 9 years in the Army, Army Reserve and Air Force. Following that, he operated the Skelly Station in Milford. After that, he worked for Jacobs until 1963 when he started the Buy-Rite Food Center in the present Style Craft building in 1970. Wahlman bought out Jacobs in 1971 and operated Buy Rite until he retired in 2001.
Wahlman was named Milford “Citizen of the Year” in 1969 and was named “Grocer of the Year” by the Iowa Grocery Industry Hall of Fame in 1996.
Wahlman also served as Mayor of Milford from 1996 to 2009.
Wahlman is currently a member of the Milford Kiwanis and the American Legion. He and his wife are members of Good News Community Church.
The couple have five children.
The Milford Pioneer Days Parade will be held Saturday, July 23rd.
