(Spencer)– A rural Spencer man faces multiple charges stemming from a single-vehicle crash early Tuesday south of Lost Island Lake.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called shortly after 12:30 a.m. to the 3100 block of county road N-18 south of Lost Island. Upon arriving they found a Ford pickup resting on the driver’s side with severe damage and no occupants.
Authorities determined the pickup had been northbound when the driver failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle went into the ditch and rolled, coming to rest facing south.
Upon investigating, deputies determined 41-year-old Peter Crew of rural Spencer had been driving the vehicle and had called 911 to report it stolen.
Authorities located and arrested Crew and booked him into charges of failure to maintain control, failure to report an accident and interference with official acts.
The pickup, owned by Spencer Agronomy Service, was totaled.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol.
