(Okoboji)-The Iowa Roots Round Tour will roll into the Iowa Great Lakes Thursday night. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
Pearson Lakes Art Center will present the Iowa Roots Round tour on Thursday evening.
Lauded as Iowa’s Renaissance Man, Chad Elliott says, the format allows the songwriters to share their stories and their songs. “You know, a lot of times in Nashville you go to a writer’s round where you get the story behind the song and there’s, you know, three or four people up on a stage, and you can kind of listen to the stories. So, we thought we’d get together as Iowa writers and tell our stories.”
He adds that he’ll be joined by two other songwriters. “The group that’s going to be up there in Okoboji, it’s Ryne Doughty and Kathryn Fox and I. Ryne is from eastern Iowa, Washington, Iowa originally, which has some really great Iowa musicians who have come out of there, and Kathryn Fox is a writer and a fiddle player extraordinaire. She kind of tours around with a lot of different people but lately she’s been touring with me. She’s originally from Wisconsin, but she teaches music classes down in southwest Iowa. She lives in Creston, Iowa, and I’ll be filling in, as well.”
The Iowa Roots Round will start at 7:30 Thursday evening at Pearson Lakes Art Center.
