(Paullina)– The town of Paullina has a new Police Chief. Mayor Marlin Sjaarda says Luke Hughes of Le Mars will begin serving in that capacity November 3rd. Hughes is currently a certified officer and park ranger for the Plymouth County Conservation Board. He also has been working as a part-time officer with the Hinton and Akron Police Departments.
The previous Chief of Police in Paullina, Nathan Bremer, retired in August, leaving the city without an officer. Sjaarda says they attempted to utilize the services of a reserve officer but were advised by legal counsel that person would need to serve under the auspices of a police chief.
Deputies with the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office have been filling in in the interim.
