(Emmetsburg)– A two-vehicle collision Monday in Palo Alto county claimed the life of a Burt, Iowa man and sent one person to the hospital.
Troopers say 61-year-old Thomas Lichter of Burt was driving a 1991 Buick northbound on a county road and 45-year-old Mark Besch of West Bend was driving a 2003 Chevrolet pickup southbound. Authorities say the two vehicles met at the crest of a hill and collided nearly head-on.
Both Lichter and Besch were taken to the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. Lichter was pronounced dead a short time later. There was no immediate word on the extent of Besch’s injuries or condition.
The crash took place shortly before 1:00 p.m.
The State Patrol says it remains under investigation.
Troopers were assisted on the scene by the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office, the Palo Alto County Ambulance and the West Bend Ambulance.
