(Emmetsburg)—A two-vehicle collision yesterday (Mon.) at the intersection of County Road N28 and Highway 18 near Ruthven sent one person to the hospital.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says Emera Jackson of Burnside, Iowa was driving a 1997 GMC Jimmy westbound when she failed to see a vehicle in front of her slow as it approached the intersection. Authorities say Jackson attempted to avoid striking the rear of a flatbed semi and steered into the eastbound lane. They say Jackson was eventually able to stop and reversed her direction. At that point she backed into a westbound 2004 Lincoln Aviator driven by Brandi Opheim of Cylinder. Opheim was taken by ambulance to the Palo Alto County Hospital. No injuries were reported to Jackson or two passengers in her vehicle.
Both vehicles sustained an estimated $2,500 in damage.
Jackson was cited for unsafe backing on a highway.
The collision took place shortly after 11:30 a.m.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Ruthven Fire Department, Ruthven and Emmetsburg ambulances and the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation.
