Palo Alto County Authorities Recover Two Stolen Pickups

November 22, 2014

(Emmetsburg)– Palo Alto county authorities have recovered two pickups that were reported stolen in the past week.

A pickup believed to be the same one used to ram into Sparky’s Convenience Store in Mallard early Monday was found Wednesday. Authorities say the front end of it was in the Des Moines River. It was found in the 2900 block of River Road. It had extensive damage to the rear along with damage to the front, driver’s side and undercarriage. Total damage was estimated at $8,500.

Items found inside the truck were sent to the DCI Crime Lab for testing.

The pickup had been reported stolen from a residence in Ayrshire.

Another pickup, which had been reported stolen from a residence in Graettinger, was found Wednesday in a field in the 2900 block of 435th Avenue in Palo Alto county. It was spotted by a citizen who thought it looked suspicious and called authorities. It sustained damage to the front bumper and had scratches on the passenger side. Damage was estimated at $3,500.

Authorities say the owner of that pickup also reported his house had been broken into, but it wasn’t certain if anything was missing. It’s believed that incident took place sometime between 7:45 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office advises people to remove all keys from vehicles and lock them. Houses should also be locked if left unattended.

They’re also requesting citizens to report any suspicious activity the instant they see it.
