November 22, 2014

(Emmetsburg)—Authorities in Palo Alto county are investigating a rash of burglaries that took place early Sunday.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says the first report came around 12:30 a.m. when a sheriff’s deputy discovered a break-in at Ruthven Meat Processing in Ruthven. Entry was gained through a window. Damage was estimated at about $400.

The second report came shortly after 3:00 a.m. when deputies received a report of a vehicle being rammed into Sparky’s Convenience Store in Mallard. Upon arriving a deputy discovered the store’s west wall had been pushed in and that entry had been gained. Damage to the building was estimated at $10,000. Authorities say the possible suspect vehicle is a light silver or white extended or quad cab pickup. The truck was reportedly seen traveling south out of Mallard on Highway 4.

The third report was received shortly before 6:00 a.m. Sunday from the Silver Lake Café in Ayrshire. Entry was gained by prying open a door. Damage was estimated at $500.

The fourth burglary was reported at 7:21 a.m. from the Blue Moon Bar in Ayrshire. Entry was gained by prying a door. Damage to the door was put at $500, with an unknown amount of damage to some video machines inside.

The final report was received around 9:18 a.m. from the Community Center in Ayrshire. Entry was again gained by prying open a door. $500 in damage was estimated to the door.

At 9:45 a.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen 2005 Silver Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab truck that was parked in the 1100 block of Cambell Street in Ayrshire. The license plate is 384ZSP. The truck is valued at $10,000.

Authorities say an inventory is being taken to determined what, if anything, was taken in each of the burglaries.
