November 22, 2014

(Milford)– Katelyn Warburton and Wes Baish found a way to follow up the Iowa High School Speech Association Public Forum state championship they won last month. The duo matched their state performance by going undefeated at National Forensic League West Iowa District Tournament in Public Forum debate. The performance qualified them for the National Finals in Birmingham, Alabama in June. The team has amazingly won their last 16 debates.

They debated the February topic that asks the impact of the economic rise of the “bric” nations, Brazil, Russia, India and China on the United States.

This is the sixth straight year that Okoboji-Spirit Lake has qualified a public forum team for nationals.

Olivia Skogerboe tied with teammate Regan LaBounty to claim the second qualifying spot. The senior, Skogerboe, was awarded the qualifying spot.

They debated the topic, “Resolved: The United States ought to submit to the jurisdiction of an international court designed to prosecute crimes against humanity.”

OSL will have one more chance to qualify for Nationals in Student Congress to be held March 28th.
