OSL Debater Qualifies For Nationals

(Milford)– An Okoboji/Spirit Lake debater has qualified for nationals.

Kyle Hanson placed first in the National Forensic League District Student Congress Tournament held over the weekend in Carroll. Hanson will now compete in the National Finals in Birmingham, Alabama.

Connor Ave and Joe Bartlett finished second and third respectively in their house to become the first and second alternates for the National House of Representatives.

Also competing but not placing were Kyle Champine in the Senate, and Madison Delaney, Sadie Range and Cody Schillinger in the House.

In addition, Abby Shew and Katie Johnson competed in the Midwest Novice Nationals recently at Iowa City. This is only the third time Okoboji/Spirit Lake has participated in the prestigious tournament. Both were competitive but didn’t advance to elimination rounds.

The awards pot luck for Okoboji/Spirit Lake debaters will be held April 5th at the Okoboji High School Multi-Purpose Room.
