(Sibley)—A single vehicle crash Wednesday night on Highway 9 northwest of Sibley injured a LeMars man and a passenger in his passenger.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says 60-year-old Patrick DeRocher was driving a 1999 Ford pickup eastbound when he fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle crossed the center line, entered the north ditch, ramped a creek embankment and went airborne until it crashed on the other side of the embankment. Deputies estimate the pickup traveled in the ditch about 100 yards and was airborne for about 25 yards before hitting the embankment.
DeRocher and a passenger who’s name wasn’t immediately available were both taken by ambulance to the Osceola Community Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
A damage estimate to the vehicle wasn’t available.
The crash took place shortly after 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
