(Sibley)– A South Dakota man was injured after he crashed his vehicle into a utility pole at the Osceola County Fairgrounds in Sibley today (Monday) faces a myriad charges.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says it all started when deputies received a report of a vehicle being driven recklessly on 9th Street in Sibley. It continued westbound on 9th Street and collided with a utility pole east of 1st Avenue West at the Osceola County Fairgroudns.
Following an investigation, deputies arrested 19-year-old Dylan Schafer of Revillo, South Dakota for operating while intoxicated…1st offense; and leaving the scene of an accident.
Schafer was also charged with reckless driving, person under the legal age, open container, failure to maintain control and striking fixtures.
A 2000 Dodge Caravan he was driving was totaled. About $3,000 in damage was estimated to the utility pole, owned by the city of Sibley.
Schafer sustained minor injuries in the crash but refused immediate treatment.
He was booked into the Osceola county jail on a $3,500 cash bond.
