Origin Of Estherville House Fire Said To Be Suspicious

March 17, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– Authorities say the cause of a house fire Sunday evening in Estherville is suspicious and is under investigation.

The Estherville Fire Department and police officers were called to 427 North 18th Street in Estherville a little after 6:00 pm after getting a report of smoke from a residence. Upon arriving police saw an occupant of the residence and another person attempting to put out the fire. Police say at that time, it was believed a person was inside.

Firefighters then arrived and made entry to the home and found no occupants. The fire was quickly extinguished. Fire and police officials then went through the house and determined the fire was suspicious. The State Fire Marshall’s Office was notified and was on the scene today (Mon.).

A press release doesn’t go into detail on the extent of damage.

The Wallingford Fire Department, Estherville Police Department, Estherville Ambulance Service and Wallingford ambulance assisted on the scene.

Authorities say additional details will be released when they’re available.
