(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake’s city offices may have soon have some new headquarters.
The city council Tuesday directed City Administrator Mark Stevens to retain an architect to help identify various options, which he says could include new construction of a city hall or locating in an existing building that would be retrofitted to match the city’s needs.
Stevens says the current city hall is no longer adequate and is developing some structural issues, such as a leaking roof, deterioriating exterior walls, and poor heating, cooling and ventilation…among other things.
Stevens says the process of studying various options could take several months. He says they hope to have a report back in the late spring or early summer for the council to act on.
Stevens says conceivably, the issue could be on the ballot for a public referendum this coming November if the council opts to go that direction.
