Onset Of Hot, Humid Weather Has Many Cranking Up The AC

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The onset of hot, humid weather has many looking for ways to stay cool without going broke paying utility bills. When it comes to that, Rob Hillesland of the Iowa Utilities Board says there are some things we can do to lessen the impact. Most important, he says, is to limit the amount of direct sunlight getting in to your home…(click here for comment from Hillesland).

Hillesland says that’s where a programmable thermostat comes into play…(click here for comment from Hillesland).

Making sure your air conditioner coils are clean and regularly changing filters can also make a big difference.

And Hillesland says it’s important to postpone the use of large appliances on days when its hot until late evening or early afternoon, when demand for electricity is less…(click here for comment from Hillesland.).

The good news is that mother nature’s air conditioner should kick in over the next 24 hours. Much cooler and less humid air is expected to arrive tonight (Tues.) and tomorrow (Wed.), when highs are only expected to reach the low 70’s.
