Online Registration Now Underway For 42nd Annual Walleye Weekend

February 07, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Arnolds Park)– Online registration is now underway for the 42nd Annual Walleye Weekend. Blain Andera, CEO of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, says this year’s event will be held May 4th and 5th

“You know every day that we get this warm weather is one day closer to open water fishing, so. I know the ice fishing anglers aren’t excited to hear that, but we have opened up the registration for Walleye Weekend which is May 4th and 5th and this is the 42nd annual, so that means the grand prize will be $42,000 for one of the ten tagged walleye.”

Andera says there are no changes to the structure of the tournament this year…

“You know the DNR has not done anything with their slot limits or anything like that so that will all remain the same and we are going to have the Biggest Walleye Tournament again which is through the FishDonkey app., and so we’re excited about that. That was really popular last year, so yeah, we’re looking forward to it. The registration forms are going to the printer soon, so a few more weeks they’ll be in the bait shops and ready to go for folks to sign up there as well. Right now it’s available at okobojichamber.com.”

The cost of the tournament is $30 for those 16 and older and $15 for those 15 and younger. The extended contest is an additional $20 that allows you to continue to fish for one of the tagged walleye through August 31st.

On a related note, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources is reminding everyone the walleye fishing season on Big Spirit, East and West Lake Okoboji is open through February 14th. It will close after that date and reopens May 4th, Walleye Weekend.
