One Person Is Hospitalized Following Overnight House Fire In Lake Park

July 13, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Lake Park)– An overnight house fire in Lake Park sent one person to the hospital. Lake Park Fire Chief Brandon Ehret tells KUOO news they were called to 305 East 5th Street around 1:00 am this (Thursday) morning…

“We arrived on the scene we found that the living room portion of the house was fully involved. It had a big picture window that had blown out, we had fire coming out of that. We made entry into the front entrance of the house and found the victim inside, got him out, performed live saving measures, performed CPR, got him loaded in the ambulance. Lakes Regional Ambulance took him from there. We had a crew knocking down the fire as we were doing that as well, it was in a different part of the house so we were able to work on the fire basically at the same time. Got the fire knocked down I would say in probably the first half hour. Had to access the roof in one spot to make sure it didn’t extend into the rest of the house. We were good there, got the fire put out, got the hot spots, had the Fire Marshal come, do an investigation. At this time it’s undetermined as to the cause. We kind of have an origin spot but we just couldn’t pinpoint a cause at this time.”

Ehret says the condition of the person isn’t known. A dog perished in the fire. He says damage to the home is fairly extensive…

“The living room actually used to be the garage on the house years ago, converted into living space. That was the main area of the fire. It started to extend into the kitchen some, we were able to get it stopped. The main portion of the house, the bedrooms and the kitchen, the kitchen sustained some fire damage, everything else was really heavy smoke. It was really hot in that house, so we got it vented out and did another couple of searches and made sure nobody else was in the house at the time, so.”

The Milford Fire Department assisted with manpower. The Lake Park Police Department, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Lake Park ambulance, Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance and Lake Park Utilities assisted on the scene.
