(Estherville)– One area city plans to cut back on personnel in order to address a potential reduction in revenue, stemming from action that could be taken by the Iowa Legislature on property tax reform. The Estherville City Council Monday evening adopted a budget for the upcoming fiscal year. City Administrator Penny Clayton told the council it will leave several positions that are already vacant, unfilled…
Clayton says a position in the Street Department that will soon be vacated through an upcoming retirement will also be left unfilled for now, at least, until they know what action the Legislature takes.
Clayton says talks of how the work loads will be adjusted are ongoing. She says it’s likely residents will notice some changes…
Clayton adds they will need to be careful also so as not to burn out personnel.
The council voted unanimously Monday evening to adopt the budget following a public hearing that drew no comment.
