(Milford)– Okoboji Middle and High School jazz bands brought some hardware home from the Northwest Iowa Bandmasters’ District Jazz Festival Wednesday in Sioux City.
The Okoboji Middle School Jazz Band won 1st place in the Middle School 1A/2A class. Cherokee was 2nd and Rock Valley 3rd.
The Okoboji High School jazz band finished 3rd in Class 2A. 1st place went to South O’Brien; Alta Aurelia was 2nd; Rock Valley 4th and Cherokee 5th.
Okoboji’s 3rd place finish does not allow it to qualify for the Iowa Jazz Championships, but it does put the band in the running for a wildcard invitation. Rankings at other contests the rest of the season will determine if Okoboji gets that invitation.
The Okoboji High School Jazz Band will next perform at the Morningside Jazz Festival February 11th.
