It’s time to register for the Okoboji Writer’s Retreat. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Okoboji Writer’s Retreat will be held September 22-25 in The Iowa Great Lakes.
Founder Julie Gammack says the retreat is for writers of all abilities. “I think one of the things worry about when they think they’d like to come but they’re afraid to sign up is that somehow they’re not good enough. We have designed this so there really is something for everybody at every level, including the beginner who basically wants to make their holiday newsletter a little better, to the published author looking for an agent and somebody to take a look at their manuscript, and everything in-between.”
She adds that they’ve added a songwriter’s component this year. “What’s new this year is that we’ve added songwriting. One of our musicians said, you know, there’s a song in everyone. I don’t care whether you’ve just got a guitar sitting in the closet that hasn’t been restrung in a few years or you’re really pretty darn good and want to find out how to find a recording studio or how to get your music out into the world. So, we’ll see how this goes. I think there’s going to be a lot of cross-pollination. If you think about it, if you’re in a position of writing a television script, you’re gonna want music, or film or whatever. There are so many ways today to tell stories.”
