(Okoboji)-A new musical will open at the Okoboji Summer Theatre Tuesday night. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Okoboji Summer Theatre will present Bright Star: A New Musical July 26-31.
Director Lauren Haughton says, the Tony-nominated musical opened on Broadway just a few years ago. “It’s an amazing show. It opened on Broadway in 2016. It is actually written by Steve Martin, famous movie star, comedian, but also, banjo player, and so, this musical that he wrote with Edie Brickell has bluegrass, it has a lot of banjo, and it’s a beautiful love story with, obviously, a lot of comedy. Very dramatic scenes, as well, but just in like the musical theatre style, what people know and love about musical theatre. It is new, it’s fresh, and it has a band that is quite exceptional, and if you love bluegrass music, it’s like the blending of musical theatre with bluegrass, and that’s what’s so exciting and new and fresh with this show.”
Curtain time is 8 pm.
