Okoboji students gain top Jazz honors, bound for State Championships

Okoboji – Okoboji High School’s Jazz Band and Jazz Choir traveled to Vermillion, South Dakota, to perform at the USD Coyote Jazz Festival on Thursday, March 14. Boji Voices won 2nd place in Class 2A with Melanie Clemen and Alex Adams winning an Outstanding Soloist/Musicianship Award in vocal jazz. There were nine jazz choirs competing in Class 2A.

The OHS jazz band won 1st place in Class 2A. There were fifteen bands competing in Class 2A.

Boji Voices will perform at the Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships at 1:00 on March 26 at Huxley. Okoboji Jazz Band will perform at the Iowa Jazz Championships on April 18th at 3:15 in Des Moines at the Iowa Events Center. This will be Okoboji’s 19th consecutive appearance at the Iowa Jazz Championships. Okoboji High School Jazz Band is directed by Greg Forney. Boji Voices is directed by Erin Orness and accompanied by Melanie Ellis.
